What are the SH-Fm Series High Amperage Shunt Resistors?


The SH-Fm is a flat-format interchangeable shunt resistor designed to extend and multiply the current measurement range of ammeters and precision measurement instruments. By placing a calibrated low-resistance element in the current path and measuring the resulting millivolt-level voltage drop, the SH-Fm allows instruments with fixed input ranges to accurately monitor currents from as little as 1A up to 2500A without requiring bulky current transformers or custom sensing arrangements. The interchangeable construction means shunts can be swapped between instrument setups to reconfigure the measurement range, a feature particularly valued in calibration laboratories and multi-range panel installations.

The resistance range spans 0.2mΩ to 16mΩ, selected according to the rated current and the desired voltage output. Rated voltage drop options of 25mV, 50mV, 60mV, 75mV, and 100mV accommodate a wide variety of connected instrumentation standards. For lower current models in the 1A to 150A range, physical dimensions scale with the rated voltage and current combination, with body lengths between 45mm and 78mm and widths between 28mm and 33mm, ensuring a compact footprint even at the upper end of the lighter current variants. Models rated for 51A to 2500A are built to handle the correspondingly larger continuous dissipation, with resistance values stepping down into the sub-milliohm range.

Tolerance grades of ±0.5%, ±1%, and ±5% allow the SH-Fm to be specified at accuracy levels ranging from general-purpose panel metering through to precision instrumentation. Two TCR grades, 50 ppm/°C and 100 ppm/°C, provide flexibility to match the thermal stability requirement of the application. The operating envelope of −25°C to +40°C ambient and relative humidity up to 80% at 35°C confirms suitability for indoor industrial, transportation, and telecommunications environments where controlled but non-hermetic conditions prevail.
