What are the MGR Series Metal Glazed High Voltage Resistors?
The MGR series is a range of axial leaded metal glazed resistors engineered for applications requiring high working voltages combined with wide resistance values and reliable long-term stability. Five body sizes are offered — the MGR0623, MGR0932, MGR1145, MGR1550, and MGR1760 — spanning standard power ratings from 1/4W to 3W and high power rating variants from 1/2W to 5W, all rated at 70°C. Maximum working voltages progress from DC 1600V on the smallest standard body up to DC 13,000V on the largest high power rating variant, with corresponding overload voltages reaching 18,000V, covering a voltage range that places the MGR series well beyond the capability of conventional film or wirewound axial resistors.
Resistance values are available from 100kΩ to 1GΩ at ±1% and ±2% tolerance, and from 100kΩ to 500MΩ at ±5% tolerance. The temperature coefficient of resistance depends on the resistance sub-range: ±100 ppm/°C for values from 100kΩ to 1MΩ, ±200 ppm/°C from 1MΩ to 10MΩ, and ±500 ppm/°C from 11MΩ to 500MΩ. The rated continuous working voltage for each part is the lower of √(P×R) and the published maximum working voltage for that model, and overload voltage is similarly constrained to the lower of 2.5×√(P×R) and the rated maximum overload voltage, ensuring that both normal and transient stress conditions remain within the element's design limits.
Two coating materials are available to suit different operating environments. The silicone resin coating, finished in brown, is flameproof and supports a continuous operating temperature up to +225°C, making it appropriate for demanding thermal environments and high-voltage power circuitry. The epoxy resin coating, finished in light blue, is rated to +155°C and suits general industrial and board-level applications. Reliability is confirmed by endurance testing to MIL-STD-202F Method 108B, permitting a maximum drift of ±3.0% after 1000 hours at rated voltage and 70°C, and damp heat with load testing to MIL-STD-202F Method 103B, permitting a maximum drift of ±5.0% after 1000 hours at 40°C and 90–95% relative humidity. Intermittent overload performance is specified to JIS-C-5201-1 at four times RCWV for 10,000 cycles. Both reel and ammo tape packing formats are available across all body sizes.
