What are the GBR-253 Series High-Voltage Thick Film Resistors?
The GBR-253 is a 1.7W ultra-high-voltage thick film resistor built on a 96% alumina ceramic substrate (Al₂O₃), engineered to operate at continuous voltages up to 29kV and to withstand pulsed voltages of up to 60kV for three-second durations. The 60kV pulse rating is the highest within the GBR high-voltage series, positioning the GBR-253 as the preferred choice for circuits that must survive the most severe transient voltage excursions, such as those encountered in impulse test generators, high-energy discharge networks, and pulsed high-power systems where peak voltages significantly exceed steady-state operating levels.
The resistance range spans 0.1Ω to 500MΩ, with typical standard values extending from 0.1MΩ through to 500MΩ at a tolerance of ±10%, and a wider ±20% tolerance band available for certain values where the combination of very high resistance and extreme voltage rating places greater demands on the manufacturing process. Alternative resistance values beyond the standard range are available on request. The temperature coefficient of resistance is ±100 ppm/°C, and the operating temperature range of −20°C to +70°C covers the majority of industrial and laboratory environments in which such components are deployed.
The GBR-253 shares the thick film ceramic platform common to the broader GBR high-voltage series, inheriting the superior stability, low noise, and dielectric robustness that ceramic substrates provide over polymer-based alternatives. The alumina substrate’s combination of high dielectric strength and thermal stability allows the GBR-253 to absorb repetitive high-energy pulse events without progressive degradation of the resistive element, making it well suited to test and research environments where reliability under repetitive extreme-voltage stress is a fundamental design requirement alongside accurate and stable high-impedance resistance.
