What are the GBR-395 Series High-Voltage Thick Film Resistors?

The GBR-395 is a 1W high-voltage thick film resistor constructed on a 96% alumina ceramic substrate (Al₂O₃), positioned within the GBR series as a single-element component combining a broad megohm resistance range with a continuous operating voltage of 22kV and a three-second pulse voltage limit of 40kV. These voltage ratings place the GBR-395 between the GBR-250 and GBR-253 in terms of transient capability, making it well suited to high-voltage circuits that must withstand moderate pulse overvoltage events alongside sustained operation at multi-kilovolt levels, without requiring the higher pulse ratings of the more specialised series members.

The resistance range extends from 0.1Ω to 500MΩ, with typical standard values from 10MΩ to 500MΩ available at a uniform tolerance of ±10%. Alternative resistance values outside the standard range are available on request. The temperature coefficient of resistance is ±100 ppm/°C, and the operating temperature range of −20°C to +70°C reflects the industrial and laboratory environments in which components of this type are routinely deployed. Rated continuous power dissipation is 1W, consistent with the compact physical format of the series and the high-impedance circuit configurations in which megohm-range resistors typically operate.

As a thick film resistor on an alumina ceramic substrate, the GBR-395 inherits the superior long-term stability and low-noise performance that distinguish thick film technology from conventional carbon resistors, as well as the dielectric robustness of the ceramic substrate under sustained and transient high-voltage stress. The combination of a 500MΩ upper resistance limit, a 22kV continuous voltage rating, and a 40kV pulse tolerance in a single compact component gives the GBR-395 a broad application scope across industrial high-voltage equipment, scientific instrumentation, and specialised power electronics where reliable high-impedance operation under elevated voltage conditions is a primary design requirement.
