What are the HVI Series High Voltage Industrial Resistors?
The HVI series is a range of zero-inductance high voltage thick film resistors in a tubular encapsulated format, developed specifically for precision industrial applications where both exceptional voltage standoff and tight resistance stability are required simultaneously. Seven body sizes are offered — HVI26, HVI39, HVI52, HVI78, HVI103, HVI124, and HVI154 — with maximum continuous operating voltages stepping from 4kV on the smallest body up to 30kV on the largest, and power ratings from 1W to 6W at a 125°C ambient temperature. Resistance values span 100kΩ to 1GΩ, with a single tolerance of ±1% across the range, reflecting the precision character of the series.
The defining characteristic of the HVI series is its combination of zero inductance and an exceptionally low temperature coefficient of resistance of 25 ppm/°C, referenced to +25°C and measured across the full operating span from −55°C to +125°C. This TCR performance is among the tightest available in any tubular high voltage resistor, and distinguishes the HVI series from the broader HVE series, which is rated at ±100 ppm/°C. The zero inductance construction ensures that impedance behaviour remains purely resistive at the operating frequencies encountered in precision power supply feedback networks and high voltage signal conditioning circuits, where inductive reactance from a wirewound alternative would introduce measurement or regulation errors.
Each body is encapsulated in a high temperature silicone conformal coating that protects the resistive element and substrate from moisture, contamination, and thermal shock. Load life stability is specified at ΔR ≤0.25% after 1000 hours of continuous operation at rated power and 125°C, and short time overload performance is ΔR ≤0.2% at five times rated power for five seconds at up to 1.5 times the maximum operating voltage. Moisture resistance drift is ΔR ≤0.4% and thermal shock drift is ΔR ≤0.2%, confirming suitability for the demanding environmental conditions present in industrial high voltage equipment. All models are supplied with solderable leads of 28 ± 3mm for straightforward chassis or PCB integration.

Where RARA high voltage resistors are deployed in the field.
Precision high voltage power supplies — feedback network, voltage sensing, and divider chain resistors in HVDC and regulated high voltage supplies where the 25 ppm/°C TCR and ±1% tolerance are essential for output stability across the operating temperature range.
Electron microscopes and charged particle beam instruments — high-impedance, zero-inductance resistors in accelerating voltage and deflection power supplies where resistance drift would directly compromise beam focus, resolution, or positional accuracy.
X-ray generators and diagnostic imaging equipment — voltage divider and feedback elements in kilovolt-range power supplies for X-ray tubes and fluoroscopy systems, where precision and long-term stability under continuous load are critical.
High resolution CRT displays and cathode ray tube power supplies — anode and focus voltage divider networks requiring stable, non-inductive high voltage resistors with tight tolerance to maintain display geometry and brightness consistency.
High voltage test and calibration equipment — precision divider and reference elements in high voltage probes, calibration sources, and insulation test instruments where measurement accuracy depends directly on resistor TCR and tolerance.
Industrial plasma and ion beam systems — current-limiting and voltage-grading resistors in plasma generators and ion implantation equipment where zero inductance prevents transient voltage spikes from damaging sensitive process components.
Laser power supplies — stable high-resistance elements in the high voltage stages of pulsed and continuous-wave laser power supplies where resistance stability over temperature and load cycling determines pulse repeatability and output power consistency.
High voltage signal conditioning and instrumentation circuits — non-inductive, high-impedance elements in voltage measurement, isolation, and attenuation networks operating at kilovolt levels within scientific and industrial instrumentation.
