What are the GBR-351 “Bleeder” Series High-Voltage Thick Film Resistors?

The GBR-351 is a specialist dual-element thick film bleeder resistor constructed on a 96% alumina ceramic substrate (Al₂O₃), forming part of the GBR bleeder series alongside the GBR-350. Like its companion, the GBR-351 integrates two independent resistive elements — R1 and R2 — on a single ceramic substrate, each with its own defined resistance value and tolerance, enabling the component to fulfil both a primary charge-discharge function and a secondary voltage division role within a single compact package. The series is designed specifically for applications where stored electrical charge must be safely and reliably dissipated from high-voltage circuits following supply disconnection.

The GBR-351 is distinguished from the GBR-350 by its higher R1 and R2 resistance value ranges, making it suited to circuit configurations that require a different voltage division ratio between the two elements. The R1 element spans approximately 212MΩ to 270MΩ at a tolerance of ±5%, while the R2 element covers approximately 45MΩ to 90MΩ at the tighter tolerance of ±3%. Both elements are rated to a maximum voltage of 33kV, and the component is rated at 2W continuous power dissipation. The temperature coefficient of resistance for both elements is ±100 ppm/°C, ensuring stable and predictable resistance behaviour across operational temperature conditions. Typical matched R1 and R2 value pairs are defined in the product datasheet to guide circuit design.

The alumina ceramic substrate provides the dielectric strength required to withstand voltages up to 33kV, while the thick film construction ensures the higher long-term stability and lower noise performance that safety-critical bleeder circuits demand. Deploying both resistive elements on a single substrate not only simplifies PCB layout and reduces component count, but also ensures consistent thermal tracking between R1 and R2, which helps maintain the intended voltage division ratio over the operating temperature range — an important consideration in precision high-voltage monitoring and feedback applications where the ratio between the two elements is used to derive a proportional low-voltage signal from the high-voltage rail.
