The ARN series is a flat-type, aluminium-housed wire wound metal clad resistor engineered for high-power industrial and automotive applications where space efficiency and thermal performance are critical. Available in three power ratings — 50W (ARN 50C), 100W (ARN 100C), and 150W (ARN 150C) — each variant is rated at full power when mounted to a heatsink, with generous derating curves available for free-air operation.
The flat, narrow profile (all models share a consistent 60mm × 50mm cross-section) is optimised for dense chassis installations, allowing the extruded aluminium housing to function as an integrated heatsink when bolted to a mounting surface. This geometry promotes excellent heat dissipation during continuous or repetitive high-energy loading cycles, making it particularly well-suited to motor drives, regenerative braking systems, and snubber networks.
With a wide operating temperature range of –55°C to +200°C, the ARN series tolerates the extreme thermal environments encountered in industrial motor control cabinets, EV/HEV powertrain enclosures, and outdoor power equipment. Resistance values span 1Ω to 1.75kΩ depending on model, with tolerance options from a tight ±0.5% through to ±10%, covering precision discharge and current-limiting applications alike.
The series carries AEC-Q200 automotive qualification and UL certification, and is rated to IP65 for protection against dust ingress and water jets — a meaningful advantage in underhood or outdoor industrial deployments. Flying leads are standard, specified to 1000Vac and 150°C (3,000-hour rated), with high-voltage cable options (Cu-R4XLPO-HV, 1.00mm²) suited to electric and hybrid vehicle architectures. Custom lead lengths and alternative cable specifications are available on request.
Characterisation testing confirms robust performance across short-time overload (5× rated power for 5 seconds), moisture resistance (40°C / 95% RH for 500 hours), thermal shock, vibration (10Hz–55Hz), and extended load life at rated power — ensuring long-term reliability in demanding real-world duty cycles.
