The IRB is a metal-clad wire wound resistor series engineered for applications requiring 60W to 200W of power dissipation where cost-efficiency and robust construction are equally important. Available in seven power ratings — IRB60, IRB80, IRB100, IRB120, IRB150, IRB150S, and IRB200 — the series covers a wide range of industrial, motor control, and power electronics use cases, from compact 60W snubber resistors through to heavy-duty 200W braking and discharge applications.
Each model is housed in a durable metal case that provides rugged mechanical protection and serves as a heatsink when mounted to a chassis surface, effectively dissipating the sustained or repetitive thermal loads generated in motor drive and braking duty cycles. Both inductive and non-inductive winding configurations are available across the range, with the non-inductive option particularly suited to snubber networks and high-frequency switching applications where residual inductance would otherwise degrade performance.
The resistance range spans 0.1Ω to 1.5kΩ depending on model and winding type, with tolerances from ±2% to ±10% covering the majority of industrial load and current-limiting specifications. The wide operating temperature range of –55°C to +200°C makes the IRB series suitable for demanding environments including motor control cabinets, outdoor industrial equipment, and underhood automotive installations.
Flying leads are standard at 300mm (1.25sq SRG wire), with both lead length and wire specification customisable on request. Dielectric withstand voltage options up to AC 5400V (IRB60) and insulation resistance of 20MΩ minimum accommodate high-voltage industrial bus architectures.
Characterisation testing confirms reliable performance across short-time overload (5× rated power for 5 seconds), moisture resistance (40°C / 95% RH for 500 hours), thermal shock, vibration (10Hz–55Hz, 2 hours per axis), and extended load life at full rated power — confirming the durability required for continuous-duty industrial applications.
