What are the MFR Series Precision Metal Film Leaded Resistors?
The MFR Series is a family of precision axial leaded resistors built on a high-purity ceramic core with a precisely controlled metal alloy film deposited by sputtering. This construction produces a resistive element with inherently low noise, excellent long-term stability, and a very tight temperature coefficient of resistance — characteristics that make the MFR suitable for demanding signal-level circuits where resistance accuracy and drift directly affect system performance.
The resistance range spans 1Ω to 10MΩ, with power ratings from 1/8W to 3W in standard body sizes. Tolerance options of ±0.05%, ±0.1%, ±0.25%, ±0.5%, and ±1% provide a progression from high-precision reference grades down to general-purpose precision levels, all within the same product family and mounting footprint. The temperature coefficient of resistance ranges from ±5 ppm/°C to ±10 ppm/°C depending on selected grade, ensuring that resistance values remain stable across the operating temperature range from −55°C to +155°C.
The body is protected by a moisture-resistant coating with high dielectric strength, applied so that the termination areas remain fully exposed for reliable soldering. Terminations are hot tin-dipped copper wire that meet the strength and solderability requirements of IEC 60115-1. The coating and marking system is resistant to standard industrial PCB cleaning solvents, supporting use in assemblies subject to flux cleaning processes.
The axial leaded format is compatible with manual PCB assembly, auto-insertion equipment, and a wide range of lead forming options including standard, FT, FK, AVIsert, PANAsert, and MT types, allowing the MFR to be specified across prototype, pilot, and volume production environments without component change. Multiple tape-and-reel and bulk packaging options are available to suit different assembly line requirements.
Long-term stability under load is a key design criterion. The MFR is engineered to maintain its resistance value within specification over thousands of hours of continuous operation, not only at initial measurement. This distinguishes precision-grade metal film types from general-purpose carbon film resistors, which tend to exhibit greater resistance drift over time and temperature cycling. The MFR Series is RoHS compliant and halogen free.
