What are the NFCT Series New Fluxgate Current Transducers?

The NFCT is a closed-loop current transducer developed by RARA Electronics Corporation using a proprietary New Fluxgate detection principle, protected under Korean Patent 10-1329240 with a PCT application pending. Unlike conventional Hall-effect current sensors, the NFCT uses a fluxgate controller in combination with a compensation winding and magnetic core to achieve zero-flux detection. The fluxgate circuit continuously monitors the magnetic core for saturation, driving a compensation current through the secondary winding to cancel the flux produced by the primary current. The measured output is derived from this compensation current rather than from the Hall voltage, eliminating the offset instability, sensitivity drift, and temperature dependence that are inherent limitations of Hall-effect devices.

This closed-loop fluxgate architecture delivers significantly superior metrological performance compared to Hall-based alternatives. Accuracy grades of ±0.1% to ±0.4% are available, with corresponding linearity figures as low as ±0.01% and thermal drift from ±10 ppm per degree. Offset current is as low as ±50 µA in the highest-accuracy grade, and long-term stability is specified at ±0.1% over a five-year period for the premium grade. Repeatability matches the stated accuracy grade, ensuring that successive measurements remain consistent without recalibration. These characteristics make the NFCT suitable for applications where conventional sensors introduce unacceptable measurement uncertainty over temperature or time.

The product family spans primary current ratings from 10 mA to 100 kA, with turn ratios from 100 to 4000 turns configured to suit the chosen current range and burden resistor. Case types range from compact through-hole formats for low current variants up to large busbar-compatible housings for multi-kiloampere ratings. Supply voltage options cover single-rail and dual-rail configurations from ±5 V to ±24 V. Connector styles include Molex 5045 and 53259 series, PCB pin, and Yeon Ho types. Four temperature grades — Commercial, Industrial, Automotive, and Military — are offered, enabling the same transducer technology to be specified across a broad range of operating environments and qualification requirements.
