What are the YB Series PTC Heaters?

The YB series are PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heaters built from functional semiconductor thermistor materials. Unlike conventional resistive heaters that maintain a fixed resistance regardless of temperature, a PTC heater exploits the inherent self-regulating behaviour of its semiconductor element: as the element temperature rises beyond a critical threshold known as the Curie point (Tc), its electrical resistance increases sharply, which reduces current flow and consequently limits further heating. When the element cools below Tc, resistance drops again, restoring heat output. This closed-loop thermal behaviour — referred to as the PTC domino effect — means the heater naturally stabilises at a target surface temperature without requiring any external thermostat or control circuitry.

The YB80-240/150/021 model is rated at 3.7W when supplied at 220V AC, with a cold resistance in the range of 500Ω to 2kΩ measured at 25°C. The self-regulating surface temperature stabilises at 85±10°C under normal operating conditions. Electrical safety performance is assured by a minimum insulation resistance of 20MΩ at DC 500V and a dielectric withstanding voltage of AC 3750V for two minutes with a leakage current ceiling of 1mA, confirming suitability for mains-connected enclosure environments. The unit ships with pre-attached UL1332-rated 22AWG black power leads enclosed in plastic pipes, with a lead pull-out strength of 1.5kgf, ready for direct connection into the enclosure wiring.

The self-regulating characteristic of the YB series eliminates the overheating risk associated with fixed-resistance heaters in poorly ventilated enclosures or under partial-load conditions. Because the PTC element throttles its own power consumption as its temperature approaches the set point, the heater reaches a stable equilibrium without relying on secondary protection devices. This simplifies installation, reduces component count, and ensures a consistent low surface temperature that minimises the risk of contact burns and thermal stress on adjacent components. The compact form factor and pre-wired lead arrangement are suited to installation in space-constrained enclosures where mounting access is limited.

Why Choose RARA Resistive Heaters

What sets RARA apart for engineers and procurement managers in industrial and automotive markets.

01
Three Technologies

Metal clad space heaters, PTC self-regulating elements, and thick film heaters — RARA covers every industrial heating requirement from a single ISO-certified supplier.
02
Wide Voltage Range

From 3V DC low-voltage PCB warmers to 240V AC panel space heaters — the GBR series and RSHT/RSH range cover virtually any supply voltage in industrial or building systems.
03
PTC Self-Regulation

PTC models (YB, GBR-603) are inherently self-limiting — no thermostat or controller required. As temperature rises, power draw automatically decreases, preventing overheating by design.
04
Global Track Record

Deployed by Siemens, Schneider Electric, Rockwell, and Hanwha in industrial panels and power systems across six continents — backed by ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certification.
