RSKN1216 E-beam Welding Alloy Resistor

The RSKN1216 is an e-beam welding alloy resistor with a square-hole, 4-terminal structure and pure copper electrodes, intended as a current-detection sensing element. It offers resistance values from 0.3mΩ to 2.5mΩ, with rated power from 5W to 10W at 70°C depending on value, in manganese copper or Karma resistive material. Tolerance options are ±0.5%, ±1% and ±5%, with a temperature coefficient of resistance of ±75ppm/°C across the range. Parasitic inductance is held below 3nH and thermal EMF below 1μV/°C, and the operating temperature range extends from -55°C to +170°C. The part is RoHS compliant and AEC-Q200 qualified, with high reliability, stability and pulse load capability, and is supplied taped and reeled on 7-inch reels for 12mm tape.

What are the RSKN1216 E-beam Welding Alloy Resistors?

The RSKN1216 is a current-sensing resistor formed with a square-hole body and four terminals, produced by electron-beam welding pure copper terminals to a low-TCR resistor body. The resistor body is available in manganese copper or Karma alloy. A full-metal construction, together with pickling and passivation of the metal surface, gives the part resistance to vulcanization and strong weather resistance, while the 4-terminal arrangement supports accurate current sensing. The part carries ultra-low thermal EMF and ultra-low parasitic inductance, giving it a fast response suited to high-frequency AC current detection as well as DC sensing, and each unit is laser marked with its value.

The RSKN1216 spans five value and material combinations. In manganese copper, values of 0.3mΩ, 0.5mΩ and 1mΩ carry rated power of 10W, 9W and 7W respectively. In Karma, values of 2mΩ and 2.5mΩ both carry a rated power of 5W. All values share a temperature coefficient of resistance of ±75ppm/°C, and tolerance is available in ±0.5%, ±1% or ±5% across the range. All variants share a parasitic inductance below 3nH, a thermal EMF of less than 1μV/°C over 0-100°C, and an operating temperature range of -55°C to +170°C. Rated power follows a derating curve that holds 100% of rated power up to 70°C ambient before linearly reducing to zero at 170°C.

Physically, the RSKN1216 measures 4.1mm (-0.3mm tolerance) in length, 3.1mm (-0.35mm tolerance) in width and 1.9mm (-0.35mm tolerance) in height, with a terminal dimension A of 2.7±0.1mm and further terminal features B, C, D and E of 0.5±0.1mm, 0.8+0.3mm, 0.1mm and 0.6+0.15mm respectively. The part is qualified to IEC60115-1 test methods covering temperature coefficient of resistance, solderability, short-time overload, resistance to soldering heat, high-temperature and humidity exposure, high-temperature storage, low-temperature load, temperature cycling and load life, and is AEC-Q200 qualified and RoHS compliant. Parts are supplied on 7-inch reels for 12mm tape, in quantities of 1,000 pieces per reel.

Applications of the RSKN1216 E-beam Welding Alloy Resistor

Where RARA current sensing resistors are deployed in the field.

The RSKN1216 as an ideal solution for current detection applications, and its ultra-low inductance, ultra-low thermal EMF and fast response make it specifically suited to high-frequency AC current detection as well as general DC current sensing.
The AEC-Q200 qualification indicates suitability for automotive electronics, and its high reliability, stability and pulse-load capability are the type of specification generally sought in compact shunt-based current-sensing circuits, such as current feedback loops in motor drives and inverters and output current monitoring in power supplies, where accurate, stable measurement of current in a small footprint is required.
