What is the RH10C 10W Metal Clad Resistor?


The RH10C is a metal clad wire wound resistor built on an aluminium housing with cement moulding, combining the mechanical protection of an encapsulated construction with the thermal management advantages of a chassis-mountable aluminium body. Rated at 10W continuous power when mounted on a heatsink, or 6W in free air, the RH10C is designed for applications that require reliable high-power dissipation in a compact, rugged package. The aluminium housing spreads heat efficiently to the chassis or an external heatsink through direct mechanical contact, making thermal coupling straightforward in both panel and PCB-adjacent installations.

The resistance range spans 0.1Ω to 6kΩ in the standard inductive winding configuration, and 0.1Ω to 2.5kΩ for the non-inductive variant, which is identified by the suffix ‘N’ in the part number. Tolerance options of ±0.5% (D), ±1.0% (F), ±2.0% (G) and ±5.0% (J) are available, providing flexibility for both precision and general-purpose applications. The temperature coefficient of resistance is specified at a maximum of ±260ppm/°C, and the operating temperature range extends from −55°C to +200°C, reflecting the thermal robustness of the wire wound element and cement moulded housing.

Key electrical characteristics include a dielectric strength of AC 1000V for one minute with a maximum leakage current of 2mA, and an insulation resistance of 20MΩ minimum. The component is qualified against short-time overload at five times rated power for five seconds, as well as moisture resistance, thermal shock, vibration, and load life testing to 1000 hours, making it suitable for industrial environments subject to mechanical and climatic stress. The component is fully RoHS compliant. The non-inductive winding option extends the applicability of the RH10C to circuits sensitive to inductive reactance, including switching and filtering applications where a standard wire wound construction would introduce unwanted impedance at higher frequencies.
